The YETI Cooler has been a great addition to our family; my husband calls it his girlfriend. 😉 I’m totally fine with her being the “other woman” in our relationship because I like her too…almost as much as him. 🙂 There are several sizes and types of YETI coolers. You really should check them all out to see which one you like. We chose the YETI Hopper Two 30 cooler because it fit our needs best. I say “we” chose it, but honestly my husband did and I am just reaping the benefits of it.
The Hopper Two 30 is the second generation of the YETI cooler (you guessed it!). The shell inside and out is made with DryHide fabric to keep it strong. The materials used are similar to high performance white-water rafts. Super cool!! I love that the inside is anti-micorobial AND mildew resistant. YETI’s cold cell insulation (found on both sides) is responsible for the long lasting chill.
YETI also claims to be 100% leak proof which has proven true for us so far. The hydrolock zipper seals everything in, keeping the cooler cold enough to hold ice for days. When you purchase a YETI cooler it comes with a zipper lubricant that will protect and extend the zipper life. On the terminal end of the zipper (the right hand side) is the U dock which completely seals the cooler. We love how the zipper opening is very flexible, making it easy to load/unload. YETI recommends a 2:1 ice-to-contents ratio so our cooler can hold 24 cans or 6 footlong subs (ice included). The handles are reinforced so you don’t have to worry about anything when you carry a heavy load.
It comes with a shoulder strap which is nice for me to use because it frees up my hands. On the front of the Hopper Two 30 is a hitch point grid to attach whatever you need. At the base of the hitch point grid there are two D ring tie down points to secure your YETI to anything, just tie it down and GO!
Basically, we think this cooler is pretty awesome. It’s very portable, easy to load/unload, doesn’t smell, and keeps things very COLD! What more do you need? It comes with a 3 year warranty, so you can feel better about your investment. Check out the other sizes available and see which ones work best for you! We are relatively new to the YETI brand, but we have taken this bad boy to the beach and on a road trip. It is literally like having a portable mini fridge with you all the time. We plan on using it at Lake Powell on our boat, sporting events, and pretty much anywhere we can!
Tips to keep your YETI cold:
Start with a “sacrificial” bag of ice in the cooler to get things chilled.
Put things in the YETI already cold and they will stay cooler longer (no brainer, right?)
Block ice lasts longest.
Make sure to close the hydrolok zipper completely over the U-Dock seal to ensure ice retention and eliminate leakage.
Store in a dry, cool place.
Apply zipper lubricant before storage or regularly as needed.
DO NOT use dry ice. The CO2 gas will cause the cooler to expand and compromise it’s integrity.
Have you ever heard of YETI ice??? It sounds pretty cool! We haven’t purchased this yet, but it seems like it would be worth the money. It actually absorbs heat in your cooler so your ice lasts longer. The shape helps it to freeze quickly and withstand impact so you can take it with you on your adventures. Pretty cool!
So there you have it, a YETI review. We are very intrigued by this cutting edge company and love how their products work. They make some pretty bold claims about the YETI brand, but they live up to them from what we can tell. When you buy a YETI cooler it comes with a cool magazine that explains all types of YETI coolers and an owners manual that explains your specific YETI in depth. We enjoyed looking through all the pictures and the informations was really helpful too!
