Whether you’re a design enthusiast or a DIY novice, you’ll find that assembling a mood board on your phone is not only practical but also incredibly empowering. Using a Blank Background

When it comes to creating a mood board using a blank background, the possibilities are endless.

IG Stories:

  1. Take screenshots of the furniture/decor you want to put in your mood board. Crop the images as close to the actual furniture as you can. Remove the backgrounds from the images (using canva, another software, etc.) for the best results.
  2. Open Instagram and navigate to your Stories. Choose a blank background color. I usually use white.
  3. Navigate to add the images you saved to your phone. You can also use the text, sticker, and drawing tools to add images, patterns, and text to your mood board.
  4. Get creative with layering and arranging elements to achieve the desired look. I like to layer the images to show decor on the furniture, etc.
  5. Save your image, or share your masterpiece with friends on IG

  3. Insert your images from your phone. You can also explore Canva’s extensive library of images, graphics, and text elements to bring your mood board to life.
  4. Drag and drop elements onto the blank canvas, experimenting with different layouts and compositions.
  5. Save and use it as inspiration for your next project.

Tips and Tricks To Create A Mood Board

  • If you have an iphone, easily remove the background from your image by holding down on the image in your Photos app, and copying the image when a white line appears around your furniture piece.
  • Before you start creating your mood board, take some time to define your design vision and goals. Consider the mood, style, and atmosphere you want to have in your space.
  • Be selective about the images and elements you choose for your mood board. Focus on incorporating pieces that align with your design vision and reflect your personal style.
  • Play around with different layouts and compositions to find the one that best conveys your design concept. Experiment with layering, spacing, and arrangement to create visual interest.

How do I choose the right images and elements when creating a mood board?

Choosing the right images and elements for your mood board begins with defining your design vision and desired aesthetic. Start by collecting images that inspire you—this could include interior design magazines, Pinterest boards, or even snapshots of spaces you love. Look for images that evoke the mood and style you want to achieve in your own space, whether it’s cozy and rustic or sleek and modern. Consider incorporating a mix of textures, colors, patterns, and furniture pieces to bring depth and visual interest to your mood board. Don’t be afraid to experiment and think outside the box—your mood board is a reflection of your unique taste and personality. Trust your instincts and select images and elements that resonate with you on a personal level, ultimately shaping the foundation of your design journey.

How can I incorporate personal style and preferences into my mood board?

Incorporating your personal style and preferences into your mood board is key to creating a space that feels uniquely yours. Start by reflecting on your lifestyle, interests, and design sensibilities. Consider elements that speak to your personality—whether it’s bold colors, eclectic patterns, or minimalist aesthetics. Look for inspiration in your favorite fashion trends, travel experiences, and hobbies. Choose images, textures, and decor items that resonate with you on a deeper level, evoking emotions and memories that reflect your individuality. Don’t be afraid to mix and match different styles and influences to create a cohesive and curated look that feels authentic to you. Your mood board is a canvas for self-expression, so trust your instincts and let your personality shine through in every detail.
