Why Use Conversion Kits?

Conversion kits are an affordable and efficient way to give your ceiling a fresh, modern look without completely rewiring or replacing your lighting fixtures. They allow you to resize and replace existing can lights without the hassle. We decided to do this in the media room as well as other areas in our home. So easy and worth it!

Benefits of Using Conversion Kits:

  • Quick and easy installation
  • Cost-effective compared to full replacements
  • Sleek, modern design options
  • Versatile for various ceiling types

Step 1: Turn Off the Power

Safety first! Turn off the power to the existing can lights from your electrical panel.

Carefully remove the old 6-inch can light trim and bulb.

Step 3: Install the Conversion Kit

  • Follow the instructions provided with the LUSA conversion kit.
  • Attach the adapter and secure the new 4-inch trim in place.

Step 4: Install the Mud Plate & Collar

  • Push the mud-in plate and collar into the ceiling opening until they sit flush.
  • Use the included screws to fasten the retrokit securely to ceiling.

Step 5: Apply Joint Compound

  • Smooth joint compound over the mud plate and feather it out to blend into the ceiling.

Step 6: Sand, Finish, and Paint

  • Once dry, sand it down to a smooth finish. Then paint the area to match your ceiling. Use a stencil if you need to do texture.
Replacing Can Lights

Replacing your can lights with conversion kits is a simple DIY project that can make a huge difference in the look of your home. Not only do you get a more modern look, but you also save time and money compared to a full lighting replacement.

Tips and Tricks

  • Be patient, the hardest part is waiting for the ceiling to dry
  • Chad tried using a texture spray called knockdown, but despite my telling him it wouldn’t work, he tried it anyway. Just skip trying this altogether, you will thank me later!

Don’t forget, you can save 15% on your conversion kits with code Angie15 at LUSA Lighting.
