Laundry Room Wallpaper Project: Why I Chose This Wallpaper (and How to Refresh Any Room With Wallpaper)

At this point, I’ve tackled my fair share of wallpaper projects (you can find a few of them here), and I can confidently say: wallpapering is a learnable skill. But every space brings its own unique challenges—and our laundry room definitely kept me on my toes!

This particular project required a ton of cuts and precision, making it my most time-consuming wallpaper installation yet. Between cabinets, a large window, a backsplash, doorframes, laundry hookups, and structural headers… let’s just say there was a lot to work around.

But would I do it all again? Absolutely.

The Most Time-Consuming Wallpaper Project I’ve Ever Done — And Why It Was Worth It

Let’s start with the star of the show. I used Ayara Home’s Roses & Ribbons print in the color Ash, part of their luxury traditional wallpaper line. This is my second project using their paper, and I continue to be impressed with the quality—it has a beautifully textured finish and hangs like a dream.

This floral print brings such a soft vintage charm to the laundry room. The gray tones work perfectly with the cabinetry and countertop, and I love how it balances cozy and elevated at the same time.

Why This Wallpaper Project Was So Time-Intensive

I ordered 16 wallpaper panels for this space, and I had to make a cut to every single one. Not a single panel went up as-is.

Most walls had obstructions, which meant more measuring, trimming, and strategic planning. When you’re wallpapering an entire room, it’s a puzzle—and it doesn’t always make sense to go in a perfect left-to-right line. I had to skip a few tricky sections and come back to them later after getting a better angle or fit.

Tips for Tricky Wallpaper Projects

Even though I’ve written detailed install guides before (see How to Hang Peel and Stick Wallpaper and How to Install Pasted Wallpaper), I want to share a few tips I picked up from this more complex install:

1. Work Left to Right (Unless You Can’t)

That’s the standard approach, and it usually works well. But in tight spaces with lots of obstacles, sometimes it’s smarter to skip ahead and come back to sections. Do what makes the install easier and cleaner.

2. Pre-Cut Your Panels

Don’t try to hang a full panel and cut around fixtures while it’s on the wall. Pre-measure, allow for a bit of extra, and trim it down before hanging. It’s easier to manage and saves a lot of frustration.

3. Know Your Paste

This was a non-pasted wallpaper that required paste on the back plus booking (folding the ends toward the center and letting it sit). That helped soften the paper, but I found I needed even more adhesive directly on the wall—especially since mine has a light knockdown texture.

4. Watch for Panel Type

Some wallpaper panels are butt-jointed, some overlap slightly, and others—like this one—require a double-cut method to trim the overlap. That was new to me, but it created such a seamless finish once I got the hang of it.

Final Thoughts

If you’ve never wallpapered before, I recommend starting with a simple accent wall to get the feel of it. But if you’re facing a more complex space—don’t be intimidated! Wallpapering is totally doable with patience and planning. Just take your time, work around each obstacle, and remind yourself that the end result is so worth it.

And if you fall in love with the wallpaper you choose, like I did with Roses & Ribbons, it makes every minute of the install worth it.
