How to Hang Your Floral Wallpaper
- If you’re only planning to wallpaper one accent wall, start on the left side. And if you’re going to be putting wallpaper all around the room, it’s helpful to start in an inconspicuous corner and work your way around the room from left to right.
- Start by drawing a plumb line to match up with the end of your first panel. (I had to do this because my wall is definitely crooked, which is pretty typical.) A laser level is a super helpful tool for this project.
- Since you already have a plumb line, easily line the right edge of the panel up with it. Make sure to leave some overhang at the corner and ceiling. Move from the top down and smooth from the middle of the panel outward with the smoothing squeegee, gradually removing the paper backing as you go. You can trim any excess paper as you go or do it later, whichever you prefer.
- For subsequent panels, focus on lining up your pattern by matching a couple of different spots in your pattern. Once those are lined up, everything else should match up.
- Working around things like windows can be tricky. Be sure to cut as much excess paper as you can while still making sure you leave enough before you press firmly to smooth it out with your squeegee.
- To trim around windows, ceilings, corners, etc. run a straight edge & razor blade along the crease. The paper dulls the blade pretty quickly, so be sure to switch out the blade often.
- When working on an inside corner, wallpaper to the corner. Trim the paper at the corner. Then either start with a new panel or use the rest of what you just cut from that remaining panel to start.
- Basically, draw a plumb line where the right edge will meet like how you started the wallpaper process. Keep in mind, that your corner pattern is not going to match up perfectly unless your walls are an exact square, which most are not. That is ok, so do not overthink it.
- On an outside corner, typically I wouldn’t recommend wrapping an entire panel around. It may not be plumb on the other side, which would affect the subsequent panel, and it’s tricky to wrap it and get it smooth with no air bubbles. But it worked for me in this situation, so yay.
Tips For Wallpaper
- Make sure the wallpaper is plumb.
- Peel off small sections of the backing at a time as you secure the paper to the wall.
- Use a squeegee tool to smooth outward.
- An extra set of hands doesn’t hurt, but it can be done independently.
- Take your time and do not feel the need to rush!
How to Work Around Windows?
Working around things like windows, cabinets, cupboards, ceilings, etc. is tricky. I like to cut off as much excess paper as I can, while still making sure I leave enough before pressing firmly to smooth it out. The overhang is what you need to be successful in completing this step.
Pros and Cons of Peel and Stick
Wallpaper is a favorite of mine for sure. And there are definite pros and cons to both traditional wallpaper and Peel and Stick. One of the Pros of Peel and Stick however is that it is so easy to START and STOP as necessary. And let me tell you I stopped and started a lot while tackling this project. Thanks to PEEL and Stick Wallpaper, I had that luxury. Being able to put up a couple of panels here and there makes tackling a project like this a lot easier to manage. However, it is a lengthy project, so the flexibility from Peel and Stick wallpaper makes it so much easier in the long run.
How To Choose Wallpaper?
When it comes to choosing wallpaper I go with a product that is high quality. This product is so high quality, very easy to work with, and just simply beautiful. And I will be very honest with you. Not all Peel and Stick Wallpapers are the same, my friends. Having said that and experienced others, I would 1,000% recommend using any of the products offered by Ayara Home for your next project.
