Beadboard is one of my favorite ways to add texture and character to a space, and using it for a bedroom accent wall is no exception. It’s classic, easy to install, and totally transforms the room without breaking the bank. I am sharing with you how I added my own beadboard accent wall in my bedroom.
How To DIY Your Own Beadboard Accent Wall

I used the same 4 x 8 panels that I installed in the bathroom at the ranch house. These panels are a fantastic budget-friendly option—they’re inexpensive, paintable, and add a ton of dimension. Whether you use them for a single accent wall or go all in and cover the whole room, they create a cozy, elevated look.
Planning and Prepping
Since my bedroom has 8 ft ceilings, the size of the panels worked really well. I set them directly on top of my baseboards, but to make them fit perfectly, I had to trim a little off the bottom edge. If you have taller ceilings, you might need to stack panels or add trim to bridge any gaps.

Installing the Panels
To secure the beadboard, I used my brad nailer, making sure to hit studs whenever possible. While some people like to use adhesive for added hold, I skipped it because it can cause significant wall damage if you ever want to remove the panels. The brad nails alone were enough to keep everything securely in place.

Once all the panels were up, I filled in the nail holes and seams with wood filler and caulked where the panels met the baseboards. I painted everything with two coats of Le Luxe by Behr, which has a beautiful, moody and soft look that complements the beadboard texture perfectly.
To complete the look, I added trim along the edges and ceiling using my pin nailer. This small detail really finishes off the installation and gives it that polished, finished look.
Why I Love Beadboard
Beadboard is incredibly versatile, and there are so many ways to incorporate it into your home. Here are a few different ways I’ve used it:
- Full-height wall treatment – like I did in this bedroom
- Chair rail style wainscoting – see my tutorial here
- Tall wainscoting that stops short of the ceiling – like in this bathroom
No matter how you install it, beadboard is a classic wall treatment that adds warmth and dimension to any space. I love how it turned out in the bedroom, and I’m already brainstorming my next beadboard project!
