Simple Front Porch Christmas Decorations that Make a Big Impact

When it comes to decorating for Christmas, front porch Christmas decorations add such a fun touch to your home. And if you think about it, the decorations that will be the most visible are the ones on your front porch. Very few people will actually see your indoor decor. So you might as well add a little something something to the outside! 😉 My front porch Christmas decorations make me smile every time I pull into my driveway.

My porch is nothing fancy and it’s definitely not the porch of my dream home, but adding cute touches here and there can make such a big impact. Don’t feel like you have to have a fancy home or your dream home in order to decorate. Turn the home you’re in into whatever you want it to be! I want to share how I decorated my front porch for Christmas this year, and hopefully it will give you a few ideas.

Front Porch Furniture

When it comes to decorating I like to start with my furniture because it’s kind of the foundation of any front porch decor. I’ve had this bench for years (it was a handmade gift), and eventually I’ll replace it with something like this. For now I always just make it work.

I usually use this bench to display a large sign, like I have here. I’ve also used it to hang a banner or as a table for pumpkins or other smaller items. A piece of furniture like a bench or a table works well as “shelving” on your front porch. And on a porch like mine it’s kind of the centerpiece. Once I have my furniture in place, it makes it so much easier to decorate around it.

The JOY sign was a gift, but it would be pretty easy to make one. Here is a similar JOY sign that is really beautiful!

The white “blanket” at the foot of the bench is actually just an old sheet! I felt like it needed something, kind of like snow. (And it covered up my tree cord nicely.) I didn’t want to potentially ruin a white blanket, so I found an old sheet instead stashed away in my linen closet. I decided it was good enough! Seriously, you probably have lots of things in your home already that you can use in your Christmas decor! Get creative!

Trees

Trees are my favorite things to decorate with this Christmas season, and they are SO easy to style. They really do all the work for you and often work well on their own without needing much else. Both of these trees came with their decorative stands, but you can also use a cute bucket, crate or a tree collar if you have a tree that doesn’t have a decorative base. Another idea I often use is to wrap cozy blankets around the bottom of my trees.

These two smaller trees would be cute on either side of a doorway. My doorway is a little small, so they work better out here by my bench. I would love to have a larger six- or seven-foot tree out here on my porch as well, so I’ll probably add one next year.

The flocked tree is one I got on clearance at Target about 5 years ago, but here is a similar tree. You can find my Merry Christmas tree here. It is something new I bought this year, and I love it!

Other Floor Decor

Once my trees are in place, I just start adding other decor around them. I used some things that were specifically Christmas items, but I also used other decor that wasn’t. I love using things I already have on hand to decorate with. Decorating doesn’t have to be super expensive. And it definitely doesn’t require you to buy everything brand new. Walk around your house and see what you have that would go well with your Christmas decor.

NOEL Sign: I made this several years ago. Chad took some pallet wood pieces and nailed them together. I used my Silhouette to cute out letter stencils. And then I used spray paint to paint it. Here is a similar NOEL sign that has a cute snowflake for the “O”.

The red window/mirror and lanterns are home decor items I already had and use year round. I draped a large piece of burlap over a wooden crate as a place to display them, and I love the natural element the burlap adds.

Window Decorations

I feel like windows can be tricky to decorate. There just aren’t a lot of different options. But I found these cute teardrop swags and decided they would be perfect on my shutters. I love that they’re a little different from a typical round wreath. I hung them with jute to give a more natural vibe.

I felt like my window still needed something. So I added this banner that I made years ago. Banners are another super easy DIY project and they’re very inexpensive. For this one I simply cut out pennant shapes from burlap. Then I used a round foam brush and acrylic paint to make the dots. And then finally I placed each pennant over a long string of jute and secured them with miniature clothespins. Easy peasy!

Front Door

My front door area is relatively small and pretty simple. So I like to keep my decor simple in that spot as well. Plus my front porch Christmas decorations wouldn’t seem complete without a cute door wreath and a doormat. 😉

My wreath is really old (like I think 12+ years), but I still like it so I keep using it. I look at new ones every year and almost bought one from here this year, but I decided to spend the money on something else. Maybe next year!

I love the look of a layered doormat. Buffalo plaid is so cute and trendy right now and it can be styled with almost anything. So I’ve loved having this over-sized buffalo plaid rug to use as a base layer underneath my coir doormat. I love that the black and white buffalo plaid can really be used year round if you want. It would go well with red and pink Valentine’s decor. You could mix and match it with either pastels or bright colors at Easter. And it’s perfect for fall and Halloween as well. Here are some cute coir Christmas doormats.

The reindeer sign is one I made five or six years ago and the reindeer is from Target a few years back. I think this little guy is so cute too!

And That’s a Wrap!!
