If you’re looking to elevate your kitchen with a beautiful kitchen hood that adds character and style, installing one can be a rewarding DIY project! Here’s a detailed look at how I installed our kitchen hood, transforming our space with a sophisticated, cottage-inspired design.
Prepping the Space and Marking the Wall
Before diving into the actual installation, we marked the spot where the hood would hang. Ensuring it was perfectly centered above the range. One of the most important parts of this step is making sure your vent wiring is in the correct location. We had initially estimated the spot for wiring when our electrician was on site before the drywall went up. It turned out that we needed to shift it down a few inches. Double-checking measurements can save you time down the line.
Mounting the French Cleat
Our hood came equipped with a French cleat system, which makes for a secure and sturdy installation. French cleats are a great way to ensure a weight-bearing mount; they’re easy to adjust slightly if needed and provide a lot of stability. We attached the cleat directly to the wall studs for added security, then positioned the hood so it sat perfectly on top of the cleat.
Choosing the Right Hood: Why We Went with Hoodsly
For our kitchen, we went with the curved hood from Hoodsly with a brass apron in an antique white finish. This hood is constructed from cabinet-grade plywood, giving it a high-quality feel that complements our modern European style. Hoodsly offers a variety of styles, sizes, and finishes, including both wall-mounted and island-mounted options. Their range of hoods means there’s something for every kitchen design. If you’re looking to invest in a hood that adds elegance to your space, Hoodsly is a fantastic choice!
Installing the Vent
With the hood secured on the wall, the next step was venting it through the roof. We drilled a hole through the ceiling for the vent pipe, carefully positioning the pipe up through the roof. To complete this step, we ran the piping all the way up and added a cover over the vent on the roof. This setup ensures our kitchen stays free of unwanted smoke and cooking odors.
The hood vent itself was easy to install as well. It screws right into the hood and then it attaches to the vent pipe. We’ve been really happy with our hood vent. We turn it on every time we bake or cook. It has three fan settings as well as a light. If you’re in the market for a hood vent, I definitely recommend ours!
Adding Stonework and Crown Moulding Around Kitchen Hood
Once the vent installation was complete, Chad installed stone around the hood to give it a “built-in” appearance. The stone wraps around the hood, making it look like it’s seamlessly set into the wall. To finish off the look, I added crown moulding trim. I added the trim where the hood meets the ceiling, painting it to match the hood’s antique white color. This small but impactful detail adds a polished touch, creating a beautiful transition from the hood to the ceiling.
The Final Look At Kitchen Hood
Our finished hood is a true focal point, adding charm and sophistication to our kitchen. The combination of the curved shape, brass apron, and crown moulding against the stone creates a timeless, elegant look. This look fits perfectly with my cottage style. Each time I step into the kitchen, I’m reminded of how creating this beautiful feature was so worth it.
For anyone considering a kitchen hood upgrade, a high-quality, stylish hood can completely transform the space and elevate your kitchen’s design. With the right tools, a little planning, and a touch of style, you’ll create something stunning in your home.
