Why I Chose RTA Cabinet Store Cabinets for Our Laundry Room Makeover

When I started planning our laundry room renovation, I already knew where I’d be getting the cabinets: RTA Cabinet Store. I used their cabinets for our kitchen renovation, and I had such a great experience—from working with their designer to the overall quality and look of the cabinets—that I knew I’d be a repeat customer.

This time around, I decided to save a little money and order the cabinets unassembled. RTA (ready-to-assemble) cabinets come flat-packed, and while they do take more time and effort to put together, I found the process totally manageable thanks to their easy-to-follow instructional videos.

The Style: Florence Shaker in Honey

For this space, I chose the Florence shaker-style cabinet in the color Honey. The warm wood tone adds just the right amount of richness to our laundry room, and the shaker detail keeps things clean and classic. My goal was to update our existing cabinetry and also add more smart storage throughout the room—and this cabinet line helped me do both beautifully.

RTA Cabinet Store Cabinet Install Tips

If you’ve seen my kitchen cabinet install tutorial, the process is very similar. Here are a few key reminders:

  • Always check that the cabinets are level.
  • Use shims where needed.
  • Secure each cabinet to studs.
  • Clamp and screw the cabinets together through the face frames for a clean, unified look.

Tools I recommend for the job:

A Closer Look at Each Wall

We made updates to nearly every wall in the laundry room—so let’s break it down:

The Sink Wall

This layout stayed pretty much the same, except for one small change that makes a big difference: more drawers. I find drawers so much more practical than doors for organizing small laundry items. I love how they look and function in this space.

The Tall Storage Wall

This was the trickiest section. The wall didn’t have much depth, but I really wanted floor-to-ceiling cabinets for added storage and a custom feel. So we got creative!

We stacked two upper cabinets on top of two more upper cabinets. Since uppers aren’t made to sit on the floor, we built a base out of 2x4s and attached it to the wall for support. One upper cabinet still holds our laundry chute, which we use daily. We just cut a hole in the top of the cabinet to make it work. These tall cabinets not only gave us more room to store cleaning supplies and overflow items—they also add height and sophistication to the space.

Above the Washer

I’ve always liked having a cabinet above the washer to store detergent and dryer sheets. But my old cabinet was too tall—if it was open, I couldn’t open the washer door at the same time. Not ideal. So this time I installed a slightly shorter cabinet that still provides storage but doesn’t block anything.

Some people on Instagram had opinions and said I should’ve added a second cabinet for symmetry. But the space next to it sits in front of a window, and I didn’t want to partially block the natural light. Instead, I added a single shelf, and I’m really happy with how it turned out!

Laundry Hookups & Curtain Plans

Before the cabinet demo, I had a laundry curtain hiding the washer and dryer hookups. I removed it during renovation, so for now, they’re visible—but don’t worry, I have plans to reinstall a similar curtain setup soon to tidy that area up.

The Hardware Details

Once again, I turned to Signature Hardware for my cabinet hardware. I used their hardware in our kitchen too, and I love the quality and weight of it. For the laundry room, I chose a slightly different style from what we used in the kitchen, but still kept the brass finish and backplate detail. The warm brass looks amazing with the honey-toned wood, and gives the room just the right finishing touch.

Final Thoughts

Updating the cabinets in your laundry room might feel like a big job—but with the right products and a clear plan, it can make a huge difference in both the function and feel of the space. I’m thrilled with how ours turned out.

If you’re considering RTA cabinets, I highly recommend giving them a try!
