DIY White Christmas Trees are simple to make and are the perfect project for a fun holiday girls craft night! All it takes is some basic supplies and time to really take your Christmas decorations to the next level with these white Christmas tree decorations.

Christmas is just around the corner and one of my favorite things to decorate with is trees. When I say decorate with them, I mean a lot of them. I have trees in all sizes and styles. A few years ago, I decided to make my own DIY White Christmas Trees. I love how they turned out and I love that I can totally customize them for my style. And you can too!

Today I am going to show you how to make 3 different DIY White Christmas Trees: A Sweater tree, A Fur Tree, and a Minky Button Tree! These are simple to make, it just takes a few basic supplies that you can get online or at your local craft store like Hobby Lobby.

For an in-depth tutorial, you can visit my Instagram video that shows you how to make all three styles as well!

The Sweater Tree

  1. Start at the bottom of your paper mache cone and measure your first piece of trim and cut. Be sure to secure your starting point with hot glue as well as the end of the piece of trim you cut.
  2. Next, secure with glue all around the bottom edge.
  3. Measure your next piece of trim the same way. Be sure you have a slight overlap on the existing piece of trim. Cut and secure. Be sure you keep all your seams in the same place on your cone so that you can hide all the seams in the back.
  4. Secure with glue around the bottom edge of the trim to prevent moving and shifting.
  5. Continue the process with the rest of the layers of your Sweater white Christmas tree.
  6. When you get to the very top, you will want to cut off all the excess fabric at an angle.
  7. To cover up the very tip of the paper mache cone you will want to glue as small a piece of trim that you can and wrap it and then glue it to secure.
  8. Once finished, go back and check to see if there are any areas that need to be secured that you may have missed.
  9. Once complete, you can add embellishments and ribbon if you choose. I left mine plain.

The Fur Tree

  1. With the Fur White Christmas Tree, you will want to start at the top of the paper mache cone. Secure the first piece of fur trim. You want to make sure that you cover the tip with fur.
  2. Once attached to the top, you will be wrapping the fur around the cone at an angle. As you wrap the fur you will want to secure it with hot glue. You want to get the fur as tight as you can, but be aware the fur will not sit completely flush on the cone. Thankfully the fur covers any imperfections, so don’t stress too much about it. Just be sure to not get glue on the fur.
  3. Just keep gluing and wrapping until you reach the bottom of the cone.
  4. There is sometimes one small section on the back that needs to be covered because we are gluing at an angle, if this happens just use an extra piece of fur and this will be the back of your fur Christmas tree.
  5. Secure any loose spots that you may have missed.
  6. If desired, glue a piece of jute at the top of the tree and wrap it around. This will not be glued as you go. I secure it at the bottom when I am happy with how it looks.
  7. Next, take your white rope and start at the bottom and wrap it around opposite your jute. Secure it at the top when it is how you like it.
  8. Adjust the white rope and jute when you are finished.

The Button Tree

  1. With the Button tree, we start with a piece of Minky fabric. Cut it down to about the size of the cone. Then you will wrap it around at an angle making sure to cover the very top point. A secret to making this fit perfectly is to buy an extra cone and then cut it open to use as a pattern and trace the Minky fabric and then cut out. This is super helpful if you are making a lot of the Minky Button trees and will save you a lot of time in the long run. At this point, you will secure the fabric with glue at the top, the seam, and the bottom.
  2. Next, add the button ribbon around the cone. Starting at the top, wrap the button ribbon at an angle. Attach it only at the top and the bottom of the tree with hot glue.
