How To Give Privacy To a Bathroom Window
This is one of those projects that every time I walked into my kids’ bathroom, I got that frustrated feeling. Why would this film peel? How is it getting so scratched up? Why does it give me so much of the “UGH” feeling? How long am I going to continue letting it bother me before I do something about it? Well, I finally decided to do something about it. And I am so glad I did. This stuff really works too, and it was so easy to complete.
So much easier than the continual deep breathing I had done for months, while I let it bother me so much! My advice to you is just to do it already! You will be so pleased with yourself, and the privacy you created! So let me walk you through each step to ensure your bathroom will again be beautiful. And, not to mention your family inside of it can feel safe and private from the outside world. Let’s get started and enjoy this easy glow-up project together!
Supplies for Bathroom Window Privacy Project
- Razor Blade Scraper
- Cordless Handheld Vacuum
- Frosted Window Film or Reeded Glass Window Film
- Window Cleaner
- Squeegee
- Spray bottle of water
How to Add Privacy Film to a Bathroom Window
- Start by removing the existing frosting film on the window using your Razor Blade Scraper. I love love love this tool.
- Be sure to clean up your workspace with ease using your Cordless Handheld Vacuum. This one is my absolute favorites.
- Wipe your windows clean of any remnants left on the glass. I love this glass cleaner.
- Next measure out your new fresh piece of Frosted Window Film. Be sure to leave some extra on all the sides.
- Spray lots of water on your windows. Really cover it.
- Remove the backing & place it on your window, using your squeegee to help it adhere. (If you’ve seen me install wallpaper with a squeegee, it’s actually a similar process!)
- Squeegee out bubbles that come from placement to ensure a smooth finish to the window.
- Trim excess film with a razor blade or even really sharp scissors.
- Use a squeegee to help maintain that straight edge.
Tip to Ensure a Straight Edge as You Cut
That squeegee is your friend. Not only does it help remove those pesky little air bubbles that occurred when you added your film to the window, but it also can be used to help stabilize your hand as you cut with your very sharp razor blade or even a pair of scissors. Place it at an angle, as you cut a straight line removing the excess film from your window. Bam. Easy peasy thanks to a squeegee!
Where Else to Add Privacy Film
Bathroom windows are a must for privacy, but I had a friend who added a see-through pantry door to her newly remodeled kitchen. She loved the idea at first, until she realize her pantry had to stay spotless all the time. Which was just not practical with all of her children! So, she added this film to that see-through door and solved that problem with ease. And I love the way it turned out too. Makes me wonder where else it might look good in a home. I think this reeded glass look is really pretty too!
