How to Paint a Pinstripe Wall

  • This is actually more of a level and tape project than a paint project! Start by setting up the MVP of this project: your laser level. I don’t know how I would have been able to do this project without it.
  • Begin taping your wall. I decided on ⅛ pinstripes with 3 ½ inches between the stripes. This is definitely the most time-consuming part.
  • I was going to add the same white paint that my wall is to get crisp lines, but I found the paint was making the tape peel off the wall. I switched to adding a small amount of caulk to the pinstripes. This will help us get those crisp lines.
  • Add your paint on top of the dried caulk. I did three coats.
  • Directly after your third coat, peel off the tape to reveal your beautiful, crisp pinstripes!

Tips For Painting a Pinstripe Wall

  • I really do think this project is MUCH easier with a laser level. If you don’t have one, first, I’d recommend investing in one. We use ours all the time! If you don’t want to pick one up, you can do the measurements by hand. Just be sure you are very precise.
  • Adding the caulk is the best way to ensure you have very crisp lines. If you want, you can try using the paint color of the wall beneath the tape, if your tape sticks better than mine.
